How to Convert Any File to PDF for Free (Word, Images, Excel, PowerPoint)
PDF is the format everyone can open and nobody can accidentally edit. This guide covers how to turn Word documents, photos, spreadsheets, slides and text files into clean PDFs without installing anything.
Why PDF is the safe format for sharing
A Word file can reflow when it opens on a different machine because fonts or software versions differ. A PDF stores the finished page, so it looks identical on Windows, macOS, phones and printers. That makes it the standard choice for CVs, invoices, contracts, forms and anything where layout must not change.
Convert by file type
The best approach depends on what you are starting from.
- Word (DOC, DOCX): text, fonts and images are laid out as a fixed page. Check tables and headers after converting.
- Images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF and others): each image becomes a PDF page. Useful for sending photographed documents or receipts as one file.
- Excel and CSV: spreadsheets print as pages, so wide sheets may split across pages. Set a sensible print area first for best results.
- PowerPoint (PPTX): slides become pages. Embedded fonts matter, so use common fonts if the deck will be converted often.
- Text, RTF and ebooks (TXT, RTF, EPUB): plain content is paginated into a readable PDF.
Step by step
Upload your file to the converter, choose PDF as the target format and start the conversion. Download the PDF when it finishes. There is nothing to install and no account to create, and the uploaded file is removed automatically afterwards.
Keep the PDF small
Large photos make large PDFs. If a PDF has to fit an email or portal limit, reduce the image size before converting, or compress the images first. Combining many photos into one PDF is more convenient than sending them separately, but check the total size before you send it.
Privacy when converting documents
Documents often contain personal details. Prefer a converter that does not require registration, states how long files are kept, and deletes them automatically. Avoid uploading anything highly sensitive to a service that does not say what happens to your file.
